CheckersThe first game I remember playing with my Granddad is checkers. I think the reason it sticks out in my mind after 33 years is that I remember him focusing 100% on me. When I played this old-school game of strategy with my dad’s dad he gave me all his attention for as long as I wanted it. I felt like I was important to my Granddad and I am sure he felt like he was important to me. Yesterday, I got a chance to watch my son play checkers with his dad’s dad. Noah spent an hour of cross generation gaming, pitting his strategic wit against Granddad in the time honored battle of checkers. I am thankful that the tradition has continued to the next generation.

Footage of the event is provided below.

    i love those mem’ries
my kids would go to grandmas
    for coffee and cards

It was adorable. Rousing card games, Scrabble, Monopoly, Checkers, Chess, Mancala, Clue…all were played for hours with all the family. But the funniest memories for me is when the kids would walk over to Grandma’s on Saturday morning for coffee and cards. Hilarious!

Thanks for the smile and for stirring a sweet memory. Cheers! :)

How fun! My grandpa and I used to play Chinese Checkers as well and I also have great memories. I still have his old wooden board we used to play on and have enjoyed many a game with my own grandkids! Thanks for a sweet memory! :) :) :)

I am sorry I missed this comment when it came in! For some strange reason my blog spam catcher got its hands on it. I think the greatest gift grandparents can give their grandchildren is their time.
